CALUM BETTISON
Calum Bettison combines contemporary design with an appreciation of human nature, exploring how objects can embody human traits. His work is humble, curious and quietly confident.
The Glasgow-based maker creates furniture and lighting using wood, ceramics, metal, textiles and plastic. His pieces are realised through traditional craft methods, technical experimentation, computer aided design, and are produced by hand in his Glasgow studio or in collaboration with other local artisans and fabricators.
In 2012 Calum received his BA Honours degree in Product and Furniture design, and has since led a career in spatial design. With an interest in people and inhabited spaces, Calum now runs an artisanal design studio developing furniture and lighting aimed towards architects and interior designers. Between commissions, Calum conducts research projects and is currently working to develop a translucent cellulose-based sheet material, plus a method to join slip cast ceramics to timber.
